She was lost in her own thoughts
Thinking about the appointment she had just left, and where she had to go next.
But she noticed him, bending over, pushing his bag closer to the wall.
As she walked by, he caught her eye.
She smiled, he smiled.
Then he spoke – startling her out of her reverie.
“Thanks for that, you made my day.”
He said with sincerity in his voice and a LITTLE sparkle in his eye.
She paused, looking at him more closely…was he homeless? transient? Difficult to
tell.
She kindly replied back, “I hope you have a wonderful day.”
To which he in turn replied, “I will now.”
As she walked on, her thoughts were no longer on her busy day and all she had to
accomplish.
They were now preoccupied with the young man who with ten LITTLE words had
made her cognizant of how important it is to be kind to everyone.
More importantly to make sure everyone is SEEN and HEARD.
She wondered how many people had walked past this young man as he sat on the
sidewalk?
Never noticing him…
Never acknowledging him…
Never smiling at him…
He said she had made his day.
But he may never truly know the impact he had on her day.
On her life.
She has never forgotten that brief interaction.
How it makes her more consciously aware of ‘seeing’ everyone,
Taking in ‘everything’
Having gratitude for all she is blessed with,
And living every moment of this beautiful life as fully as possible.
