Grief
Is like the hurricane that pummels you
With wind and torrential rain.
Knocking you to the ground,
Tearing away at your very foundation
Till you feel like you cannot hold on any longer.
Then a feeling of calm deceptively settles over,
You regain some strength
You get back up
Only to be swept away once again.
Yet, this time in the powerful surge of water
You are swirling, gasping for air, drowning…
Finally – reprieve
Rescue.
Every hurricane passes
Leaving devastation and loss in its wake.
But survival of the human spirit
Always prevails.
Eventually the pain, loss and grief lessens,
Life goes on.
Different than before
You adapt to change
But the memories of that hurricane
They are embedded in your mind,
Your heart and your soul forever.
